Our work

Metso – Uniting employees following a merger

Mining and construction industry giant Metso develops equipment and solutions for the cost-effective handling of material after it has been mined from the earth so that gold, copper, iron or other minerals can be efficiently processed.

The challenge

The company – formed through the merger of Nordberg and Svedala, among others – was challenged with integrating vastly different corporate cultures in dozens of divisions around the world. There was a strong need for internal communication to help create awareness of the goals, activities and successes among these diverse offices, as well as to establish a common corporate identity.


The solution

One of SE10’s recommendations was to create a quarterly employee magazine. In addition to a ‘cover story’, which focused on the successful installation of Metso’s equipment in challenging situations around the world, the magazine included a welcome message from a rotating pool of executives, updates on personnel additions and promotions, and articles about strategic initiatives and their progress.

SE10 worked closely with the vice president of marketing at Metso to develop the concept and general content ideas for the magazine. Based on the client's established corporate graphic standards, SE10 then developed a design template for the magazine, which was both printed and electronically distributed.

Before each issue, SE10 met with the client to suggest and determine stories, after which SE10 was responsible for generating content. SE10 was given access to all levels of the organization, from engineers to executives, in order to prepare content that was interesting and relevant to employees.

The result was an attractive and entertaining magazine that helped employees to better understand the new culture and strategic direction of the company, how they could contribute to the success of the business, and feel empowered and motivated to do so.
